Church Secretary

The Meridian Presbyterian Church Secretary is responsible for the following:


  • Answer and direct all phone calls to the appropriate staff member/church officer
  • Pick up and sort mail directing it to the appropriate person or committee
  • Receive and welcome all visitors to the church office


  • Maintain current contact information for members
  • Maintain a current list of visitors, non-member participants, and their contact information
  • Prepare and distribute packets of information for boards and committees at pastor’s request
  • Prepare and mail monthly “Light of Meridian” newsletter
  • Prepare other church correspondence as requested by pastor
  • Assist church financial officer in preparing and mailing annual contribution statements
  • Notify pastor of requests for pastoral care and maintain confidentiality concerning those requests
  • Maintain office equipment
  • Maintain adequate store of office supplies
  • Coordinate the church activities schedule
  • Assist the pastor with scheduling and maintaining a calendar of appointments and meetings
  • Coordinate the purchase of memorial flowers for the sanctuary
Program Support
  • Prepare bulletin for weekly and special worship services
  • Assist church staff to prepare mailings and materials as directed by the pastor.
Required Skills
  • Proficient computer and typing skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Publisher, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Above average grammar, spelling, proofreading, writing and editing skills
  • Ability to use office equipment such as copier and printer
  • Friendly personality with strong communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimal direct supervision and build effective working relationships with other staff, church volunteers, and members.
Experience and Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Expertise and experience in office procedures and previously listed specific skills
  • Previous experience in a church setting is preferred, although not required
Hours and Compensation
  • 12-15 Hours per week (Tuesday-Thursday)
  • Hourly pay commensurate to experience and qualifications


The person filling this position will be supervised directly by the pastor. Annual reviews are completed by the pastor and reviewed by the personnel committee of the church.  The individual will work with the pastor, choir director, musicians, bell choir director, treasurer, other ministry staff, volunteers, and session in the fulfillment of their duties.
